Auburn Police are looking for the suspect in a car bombing that took place during a funeral on Tuesday, August 23.
During a funeral at Mountain View Cemetery, 2020 Mountain View Drive, a person put an explosive device in the car of one of the attendees, according to the Auburn Police Department in a Sept. 12 Facebook post. The bomb detonated, destroying the victim’s car and surrounding trees with an intense fire.
The cost of the damage is not yet known and police haven’t identified a motive for the bombing, a spokesperson for the Auburn Police Department said.
City employees followed the suspect’s vehicle as it fled the cemetery, a passenger in the suspect vehicle started shooting at the city employees in pursuit. No one was injured by the bomb or the shooting, according to an Auburn police spokesperson.
The suspect vehicle is a dark-colored sedan and thought to be a black Acura RL. The person who planted the bomb wore a ski mask during the crime and was described as a tall man.
