Three people were injured in two separate shootings in Federal Way on Tuesday night.
At about 10:17 p.m. Nov. 30, Federal Way officers responded to the Chevron gas station at SW Dash Point Road and SW 312th Street for a shooting, said Federal Way Police Cmdr. Tracy Grossnickle.
Initially, two gunshot victims — both men in their early 20s — were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. Both men remain hospitalized, Grossnickle said.
The initial investigation indicates there was a confrontation between two groups and gunfire was exchanged, Grossnickle said. Involved individuals have been identified and the shooters have been arrested.
“This was not a random act of violence and there is no further risk to the public from this incident,” Grossnickle said.
Earlier in the evening at about 6:48 p.m. Nov. 30, Federal Way Police officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 32400 block of Pacific Highway South, said Grossnickle.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 40-year-old man from Tacoma had been shot in the leg. He was transported to the hospital by medics with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation shows that the shots were fired after a verbal dispute, Grossnickle said.
The Tacoma man refused to cooperate with the investigation any further at this time, Grossnickle added.
No suspect information or motive was provided by the injured man.
The two separate shootings occurred just one day after Mayor Jim Ferrell tweeted a statement, calling on mayors from local cities to create a coalition focused on crime reduction.
