Anywhere from 1 inch to 6 inches of snow could strike Kent and the rest of Western Washington Wednesday afternoon with even heavier snow showers predicted for Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 10 a.m. Thursday for the Seattle-Tacoma areas as well as the Kitsap Peninsula and Hood Canal areas.

“A cold and moist weather system will bring areas of heavy snow to Western Washington today through Thursday morning,” according to an 8:13 a.m. Wednesday message from the National Weather Service.

“Much of the snow will come in heavy bursts with showers or localized bands of intense snow. This will make snowfall totals highly variable from place to place.”

Accumulations of 1 or 2 inches of slushy snow are predicted for this afternoon with up to an additional 6 inches tonight in some areas of Western Washington.

A Winter Storm Warning means severe weather is occurring or imminent. Anyone planning to travel in the warned area should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions and plan accordingly.

The high and low temperatures for the next few days are expected to be 38 and 29 on Wednesday, 33 and 18 on Thursday and 32 and 22 on Friday.
