Police Blotter: Kiss with girlfriend ends in assault with truck, arrest

Reportedly upset at another man for kissing his former wife, a man tried to run over the kisser with his truck, in an incident May 20 at a home in the 24900 block of 34th Avenue South.

Police arrested the ex-husband for investigation of driving with a suspended license, after the other man declined to press charges for assault, according to reports.

The ex-husband, who did not live at the home, reportedly saw his former wife and the other man kissing outside the home. The two men began to argue, and the ex-husband reportedly jumped into his truck and sped at the other man as he stood in the driveway. The truck started to skid, striking the man and knocking him down, although he didn’t sustain any injuries.

The ex-husband denied to police that he had hit anyone with his vehicle. The woman said she went inside the home and did not see the incident after the argument. The woman told police she separated from her husband in August 2007 and had dated the other man for a few weeks.

Assault

A Kent man was cited May 19 after reportedly attempting to throw punches at a store clerk who refused to sell him alcohol. The altercation took place at a store in the 23800 block of 108th Avenue Southeast.

A fight broke out between the man and the male clerk, who reportedly punched the man in the nose. Kent Police later cited the man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after the man had fled the store and called police say he’d been attacked by the store clerk.

The clerk told officers the man appeared to be intoxicated, so he refused to sell him the beer.

The man who was cited told police he had walked into the store with his mother and that the clerk made racial comments to him. The officer who interviewed the cited man said he noticed a strong odor of intoxicants, and the man’s speech was slurred.
