In an effort to help prevent flooding in the Green River Valley, the City of Kent will place 20,000 giant sandbags along the Green River levee beginning Oct. 7. The bags will be in place by Nov. 1.

Kent city planners want to do more in the next several years to keep up existing parks rather than simply look to add more parks.
That's one of the primary themes emerging as city staff update the long-range parks plan along with input from residents. The plan has not been updated since 2000.

The first, small amounts of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) vaccine have been released by the federal government and will be arriving locally next week in King County for immunization of health-care workers.
