BECU director fills vacant position on five-member board

Meghin Margel is the latest member of the Kent School Board.

Kent School District Superintendent Israel Vela swore in Margel at the Sept. 14 board meeting. The board selected Margel at a special meeting Sept. 1 to fill the District 2 position left vacant after Michele Bettinger resigned in June.

“This was something I wanted to do for a very long time, and I’m deeply committed to Kent School District,” Margel said at the meeting.

Margel will fill the vacancy until November 2023 when the position is up for election.

Margel, a BECU director, is the mother of a freshman daughter at Kentridge High School and a sixth-grade son at Ridgewood Elementary School. She is a Kentridge graduate.

She graduated from the University of Washington with a political science degree and has worked about 30 years in the financial industry. She has worked nearly 11 years at BECU, including the last six years as director of lending solution, according to linkedin.com.

Margel recently earned a master’s of business administration from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.

The other four board members are Leslie Hamada, Joe Bento, Tim Clark and Awale Farah.
