Kent School District looking to hire bus drivers for 2022-2023

Pay is $25.41 to $30.03 per hour for part-time positions; open house set for Sept. 28

The Kent School District (KSD) is looking to hire about 10 to 15 more bus drivers for the 2022-2023 school year.

The district’s Transportation Team will have an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Transportation Building, 25403 SE 253rd Pl. The Transportation Team will answer questions and conduct bus driver interviews for any interested candidates.

Anyone interested can apply online to join the Kent School District (KSD) Transportation Team, transporting about 8,500 students to and from school daily.

The pay is $25.41 to $30.03 per hour for the part-time positions.

The duties will be to safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. Most work hours are approximately 5:45 to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m.

The district has 125 bus drivers and hopes to hire 10 to 15 more this school year, according to a school district spokesperson.

KSD, like many neighboring districts, is experiencing a bus driver shortage and is always looking for drivers, according to a district statement . Qualified applicants will receive training provided by the district’s Transportation Team. The driver training program takes approximately four weeks and combines classroom learning with behind-the-wheel bus driving experience.

Bus driver training consists of:

• Completing the CDL Class B driving test

• Receiving passenger and school bus endorsements

• Learning school bus procedures and legal requirements

• Understanding route and map reading

Additionally, candidates who complete training and begin driving for KSD will receive a $1,000 completion incentive.
