Kent Police arrest man for reportedly killing Bothell man in June

19-year-old Kent man taken into custody July 11 by Valley SWAT for killing behind YMCA

Kent Police used Valley SWAT to arrest a 19-year-old Kent man for investigation of first-degree murder in the June 15 shooting of a Bothell man behind the Kent YMCA.

“Due to the extreme danger of taking the murder suspect into custody, the detectives requested Valley SWAT to assist with the arrest,” according to a July 12 Kent Police statement.

In the early morning of Tuesday, July 11 Valley SWAT served the warrant on the suspect’s East Hill home and took him into custody, according to police. Officers booked the man into the King County jail.

Miles Clark, 30, died from a gunshot wound of head, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Clark died June 16 at a Seattle hospital, a day after the shooting.

Officers were dispatched at about 6:37 p.m. June 15 to the 10800 block of South 248th Street in response to a 911 call of a shooting, according to a Kent Police statement.

Officers were advised that a man had been shot behind the YMCA and the shooter was seen fleeing northbound into a neighborhood.

Just prior to the shooting, Clark was sitting on a bench and was approached by the suspect. Witnesses saw a heated argument, then a struggle and then saw the suspect shoot Clark in the head, according to police.

Kent Police Major Crimes Detectives immediately deployed to the scene and worked tirelessly over the past weeks to identify and locate the previously unknown suspect, according to a police statement. They canvassed the surrounding neighborhoods, conducted numerous interviews and tracked down video from multiple sources.

Once detectives identified the suspect, they developed probable cause for first-degree murder, and determined the man’s whereabouts. Detectives requested and received a search warrant from a judge for the suspect’s location.
