Kent Police arrested a 19-year-old Kent man for investigation of vehicular homicide after he allegedly hit a 12-year-old child at 132nd Avenue SE and SE 230th Street.
Officers responded at about 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 after a 911 call about a traffic collision, according to a Kent Police statement. The 911 caller said that CPR was in progress. Puget Sound Fire and medics were dispatched to the scene.
Initial reports were that a child, approximately age 12, was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured, according to police. Passersby stopped, called 911 and began CPR. Officers arrived within two minutes and took over CPR for several minutes until medical personnel arrived. Despite the lifesaving efforts, the child did not survive.
The suspect was nearby and located shortly after the collision. There are indications that alcohol may have played a role in the collision, according to police.
Kent Police traffic officers will continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
