For the Reporter
Every day when the school bell rings, just like clockwork, the halls, study rooms and the basketball court of the Kent Youth and Family Services’ Birch Creek Youth Center fills with kids of all ages.
All come for homework help and tutoring. As a reward for focusing on academics, youth are treated to recreation activities, volunteer opportunities, field trips, and much more.
One of those recreation activities is the KYFS’ AAU youth basketball program. Teams keep at-risk youth involved and focused on two goals: playing a team sport and getting much needed academic support for school.
KYFS’ Youth Basketball For All campaign hopes to fund two AAU youth basketball teams for the year by July 15. To reach the goal, it needs to raise $4,500. Funding will provide league fees, memberships, team uniforms, coaching, transportation, snacks and beverages. Support will also provide staffing to assist with tutoring in an effort to keep players on track academically.

The campaign is asking for a donation of $10 or $25. Literally any amount will help. After that, please share the campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
