South King County drivers and other interested people are invited to learn more about the Puget Sound Gateway program this month.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) hosts an open house on Wednesday, April 12, to provide information about the latest plans for the State Route 509 portion of the Gateway program that will be constructed in phases during the next 14 years.

The open house is 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tyee Education Complex Cafeteria, 4424 S. 188th St., No. 300, SeaTac. The meeting location is easily accessible by public transit.

The open house is an opportunity to talk with agency staff and provide input on design features. Attendees are welcome to come and go during the three-hour event.

The previous open house, held in December 2015, introduced the program to the community, while this open house will review design options and the potential effects on properties.

WSDOT plans to extend SR 509 from S. 188th Street in SeaTac to I-5 in Kent; improve freight travel times and reliability; improve southern access to Sea-Tac International Airport; and enhance regional mobility and safety.

The Puget Sound Gateway Program is comprised of two projects, SR 509 and SR 167, which together make major improvements to improve freight mobility and relieve traffic congestion.
