A woman reportedly punched another woman in the face at a Kent bar on the East Hill because she allegedly said a racist remark.
Officers arrested the woman who threw the punch for investigation of fourth-degree assault March 31 outside of the Inn Between Tavern, 25412 104th Ave. S.E., according to the police report.
A witness told police the woman who threw the punch reportedly was causing problems with bar staff and tried to get behind the bar. Staff told the woman she needed to move back. As the woman backed up, she apparently punched another woman in the head.
A friend of the arrested woman told officers bar staff was verbally aggressive toward her friend and caused the incident. The woman who threw the punch didn’t answer questions from police but said they only arrested her because she is, “brown.”
As police transported the woman to the city jail she told an officer she hit the woman for being a racist.
Man refuses to move
Three officers removed a man from his car after he refused orders to get out of the vehicle during a traffic stop at about 11:43 p.m. March 30 near the 1100 block of West Meeker Street.
An officer spotted the driver of a 1995 Honda Civic loop through the Safeway parking lot and ran the license plate, according to the police report. The report came back that the car’s tabs expired in 2015.
The officer activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and pulled the driver over. When the officer walked up to the driver’s window, the man reportedly yelled at the officer, “Am I being detained?”
The man kept yelling and wanted to leave. He requested the officer’s supervisor. The officer ordered him out of the vehicle after the man made no effort to retrieve his driver’s license or vehicle registration. The man refused to get out.
Other officers arrived and three of them managed to pull the man out of the car. One officer had pulled out a Taser, but didn’t use it.
Police arrested the man for investigation of resisting, obstructing and refusal to give information.
Officers used a mobile fingerprint scanner at the scene and determined the man had a warrant for driving with a suspended license. The man told officers he wanted a lawyer. Police were unable to contact the registered owner of the car.
Man tries pick-pocketing
Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly pushed down an elderly man using a walker near the King County Library, 212 Second Ave. N., at about 12:58 p.m. March 30.
The man with a walker told officers a man was walking behind him and then tried to pick his pocket to get his wallet, according to the police report. When the man turned around, both men fell to the ground.
When officers arrived, they tracked down the alleged thief about a block from the library walking northbound on Ramsay Way near Kent Station. The man denied he tried to rob the man and said the man with the walker turned around and knocked him down. No items were taken from the man with a walker.
Man caught with drugs
Officers arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after responding to a report about a man loitering at about 10:34 p.m. April 2, outside of Safeway, 20830 108th Ave. SE, in the Panther Lake area.
A woman called 911 because she recognized the man who previously broke into her vehicle in December and she knew he had a warrant, according to the police report.
