The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 Friday night at the Moda Center in Portland.

The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 Friday night at the Moda Center in Portland.

The game was scoreless late in the second period when Turner Ottenbreit was assessed a five-minute major for checking to the head with 4:17 left.

Portland (26-24-2-0) was able to convert one time on the five-minute power play to take a 1-0 lead. Rihards Bukarts took a shot from the left circle that hit a T-Bird defenseman and got past Seattle goalie Landon Bow. Jack Dougherty and Alex Schoenborn had the assists.

The Winterhawks took a 2-0 lead at 2:49 of the third period on a goal by Rodrigo Abols. Schoenborn had the assist on the goal.

Seattle (28-20-3-0) cut the Portland lead to one at 7:07 of the third period with a power-play goal. Bryan Allbee took a slap shot from the right point with Donovan Neuls in front of Portland goalie Adin Hill. Neuls tipped the shot past Hill for his ninth goal of the season. Scott Eansor had the second assist.

The T-Birds pulled Bow with over two minutes left in the third period to try and tie the game. The T-Birds peppered Hill with shots but the goalie made the saves and his defense cleared several pucks.

The Winterhawks outshot the T-Birds 31-29 in the game.

Bow made 29 saves on 31 shots and his record is now 16-19-4-0.

Hill stopped 28 of 29 shots and he is now 24-21-1-0.

The T-Birds take on the Everett Silvertips at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the ShoWare Center.
