Wild Waves Theme & Water Park in Federal Way will not open for the 2020 season, park officials announced.
While the theme park was “prepared to open after a thorough review of every aspect of park operations and extensive adjustments to operating policies,” the unknown timeline and operating restrictions required due to the COVID-19 pandemic have forced park leadership to make the “very difficult decision,” according to a Aug. 20 press release.
The closure includes all special events such as Fright Fest and Holiday Lights.
For visitors, pre-purchased 2020 season passes will be automatically transferred over to a 2021 premium season pass with free parking added to every season pass. No action is required by pass holders. All single day tickets will be transferred to the 2021 season as well.
Additional upgrades have been with season pass holders via email as well.
Wild Waves had been planning for summer fun as other theme and water parks around the country began to reopen, the park said.
Months were spent consulting with industry and medical experts, “plus hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in training, supplies, maintenance, ride inspections and more.”
The lack of alternatives and an ever-changing timeline in the state of Washington led to a cancellation of the 2020 season.
“This has been a very difficult time for everyone,” said Jody Kneupper, park president at Wild Waves Theme & Water Park. “We have done our best to communicate openly with our guests and season pass holders. I know that we have all felt the frustration and impacts of this pandemic, but the health and safety our guests and our team is always our top priority.”
“We appreciate the support of our community and look forward to welcoming our guests and team members back in 2021.”
Wild Waves Theme & Water Park, Washington’s largest combination theme and water park, offers 70 acres of classic thrill rides an outdoor water park. The theme and water park is at 36201 Enchanted Parkway S..
