Western Washington University names Kent woman as one of top 50 graduates

Valeria Goliff excelled in dance program at Bellingham school

Valeria Goliff, of Kent, was one of 50 Western Washington University students recognized as an outstanding graduate by faculty at the Bellingham school, which has an enrollment of 16,142 students.

Goliff was an outstanding graduate for the 2019-2020 academic year in the dance program from the College of Fine and Performing Arts, according to a Western news release. She is a graduate of Kentridge High School and the daughter of Steve and Emma Goliff. She earned bachelor’s degrees in dance and in psychology in June. She plans to work on creating independent dance and dance-film projects and may pursue a master’s degree in dance.

Goliff studied contemporary dance, ballet, choreography and contemporary improvisation. She performed in numerous dances and events at Western and was invited to work with three dance program guest artists: Anya Cloud, Liz Gerring and Lesley Kraus. She was awarded a grant to attend the Society for Personality and Social Psychology Conference in New Orleans to present her work on stereotyping and bias. Goliff was involved in Western’s Hip Hop Dance Team all four years and served as one of two team captains for two years.

Faculty members from dozens of academic departments and programs select one graduate to honor as the outstanding graduate of the year in each department and program. Selection is a high honor based on grades, research and writing, service to the campus and community and promise for the future.
