King County sent out an alert Friday evening that the Green River is in flood phase 4 and major flooding may occur in Kent and Auburn.

Flood phase 4 means critical flood control levees may weaken from saturation. Sudden changes in flood conditions are possible including rapidly rising water, widespread inundation, road closures and utility disruptions, according to the county. Be alert and prepare to respond quickly.

For more information, go to kingcounty.gov/flood or call 1-800-945-9263.

Earlier on Friday, the city of Kent added Southeast 256th Street, a main east-west route on the East Hill, to the list of closed roads in Kent because of flooding.

The street is closed between 146th Avenue SE and 148th Avenue SE, according to a City Public Works Department update Friday morning.

The city on Thursday closed 148th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 249th Street and Southeast 256th Street due to water over the roadway.

South 266th Street also is closed between 79th Avenue South and Central Avenue South due to water over the roadway.

Drivers should use alternate routes where possible. The closures on 148th Avenue SE and on South 266th Street began at noon Thursday. The SE 256th Street closure began around 8 a.m. Friday.

The city issued a water over roadway advisory for Green River Road between Kent and Auburn because it has water over the roadway in spots.

City of Kent park officials reported Friday evening that Riverbend Golf Complex on West Meeker Street is closed due to flooding from the Green River.

“At this time, we do not have an estimated day of re-opening due to continued rain in the forecast.” according to a City Parks Department Facebook post. “Online bookings have been suspended for the time being, and anything pre-booked has been refunded.”
