A vehicle struck and killed a 42-year-old Des Moines man who had stepped into the street early Thursday morning in the 23000 block of Pacific Highway South, just north of Kent Des Moines Road.
Shortly before 1 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on Pacific Highway South struck a pedestrian, according to an email from Des Moines Police Cmdr. Mike Graddon. The man died at the scene.
Vicente Simaj Ixchop died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“There was one witness to the collision and it appears the pedestrian was in dark clothing and not utilizing the crosswalk,” Graddon said.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, remained on the scene and cooperated with police. Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor with the driver, Graddon said.
