Kent Police arrested a 36-year-old Seattle woman for investigation of vehicular assault and DUI after she allegedly injured a woman in a crosswalk Tuesday evening in the 2600 block of South 272nd Street.
The driver was traveling westbound on South 272nd Street just after 6 p.m. when she reportedly struck a 27-year-old Federal Way woman as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk, according to a Kent Police news release. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where she was in stable condition.
The Seattle woman stopped immediately, remained on location and spoke with officers. Investigators believe that that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors to the collision. Investigators are also examining whether the pedestrian had the right of way at the time of the collision.
“We are hoping for a speedy recovery for the victim,” Police Chief Rafael Padilla said in the news release. “This is an unfortunate reminder that drivers need to watch for pedestrians and when crossing in a clearly marked crosswalk pedestrians should take the additional steps to ensure the roadway is clear.”
