Valley SWAT entered a Kent home and took a 23-year-old woman into custody for investigation of first-degree assault after she allegedly shot and injured another woman.

At about 5:03 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, officers were dispatched to a shooting near the 3600 block of South 249th Street, according to a Kent Police news release. The 911 caller reported his companion had been shot and he was in his car attempting to drive her to a hospital.

Officers immediately responded to the area while 911 operators convinced the caller to pull over, according to police. Officers located the vehicle within minutes on Military Road South and South Reith Road and quickly began to provide lifesaving aid. Medics arrived shortly after and took over medical treatment. The victim, a 24-year-old Kent woman, was then transported from that location to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle by medics.

The 911 caller, a 28-year-old Bonney Lake man, said that the victim, a 24-year-old Kent woman, and a 23-year-old Kent woman, were in a dispute in front of a home at the 24900 block of 38th Avenue South, when the one woman reportedly shot the other woman, according to police. The 911 caller and the one woman drove away as the other woman retreated into the house.

Kent Police and Valley SWAT formed a protective perimeter around the home while hostage negotiators contacted the woman via phone, according to police. Detectives requested and were granted a warrant to arrest the suspect on first-degree assault. After a significant amount of time and multiple de-escalation attempts, the suspect continued to refuse to exit, according to police. As a result, SWAT entered the residence and took the woman into custody.

Detectives are investigating to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting and the woman’s refusal to exit the home. No other parties were injured during the incident.
