Kent Police and Valley SWAT arrested a 35-year-old Kent man for investigation of domestic violence assault, harassment and weapons charges after an incident at a West Hill apartment complex.
Officers were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6 to a local hospital to take a domestic violence report, according to Kent Police. An officer met the 32-year-old Kent woman at the hospital and determined she reportedly had been assaulted by her boyfriend.
The assault allegedly occurred earlier in the day in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2500 block of South 248th Street. The boyfriend reportedly hit the woman’s torso hard with a gun, pointed the gun at her and shot rounds out of the gun near her, according to police. The woman had a bruising injury to her side.
The assault occurred when the woman’s elementary-school-aged child stood next to her, according to police. The child wasn’t injured. The woman hid in various places until her family arrived to take her to the hospital.
Multiple officers responded to the apartment complex to take the boyfriend into custody. Evidence indicated he had entered his apartment after the assault and never left, according to police. A judge approved a search warrant for the apartment.
Valley SWAT arrived to assist and gave numerous commands to the man to exit the apartment but he refused, according to police. After a lengthy standoff, the man eventually came out and police took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the King County jail.
Records showed this wasn’t the man’s first domestic assault and he was ineligible to have a gun, according to police.
”We are very thankful for the victim’s resilience in escaping the immediate threat and that both she and her child are now safe,” according to a police statement.
