A Unity for Ukraine vigil is planned from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at the Kent City Hall courtyard, 220 Fourth Ave. S.
Mayor Dana Ralph announced in her weekly update Friday that members of the South County community will host the vigil. Attendees are asked to begin gathering at 6 p.m. Speakers will begin at 6:30 p.m.
At the 7 p.m. City Council meeting following the vigil, Ralph will present an official proclamation expressing the city’s support for its Ukrainian community members in Kent and abroad.
More than 4,000 Ukrainian-Americans live in Kent, the largest Ukrainian population in the state, Ralph said.
Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday, Feb. 24 and continues to try to overtake the country.
