U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., released the following statement on Thursday regarding her endorsement of Sound Transit Proposition 1.
“Today, I am urging residents of the Puget Sound region to vote yes on Proposition 1 to complete the light rail system that will create jobs and help the local economy grow right away and for years to come.
Prop 1 will help families and workers access educational opportunities, jobs, and all that our region has to offer. Whether you’re someone who commutes every day to work, a small business owner who depends on customers being able to get to you, a veteran who relies on transit to access care, or just a fan who rides once in a while to get to the Seahawks game – you should be able to access a safe, reliable, congestion-free trip to get where you need to go.
Prop 1 will also provide a generation of good-paying construction jobs that will help workers and help our economy grow from the middle out, not the top down.
And Prop 1 is so important when it comes to protecting our environment. This measure will reduce climate pollution, reduce runoff to the Puget Sound, and reduce harmful pollutants from getting into our air.
I am proud to fight for federal investments to support Sound Transit and local transportation needs, but the federal government can’t do it alone. That is why we must pass Sound Transit Proposition 1 on Nov. 8.
Supporting Sound Transit Proposition 1 will help our economy grow now, and it is an investment in Washington state’s future. I will be voting yes on Proposition 1 for my children, my grandchildren, and generations to come—and I am encouraging others to do the same.”
