Two killed, six injured in four-car Kent crash

Wrong-way driver Monday night on SR 516

Two Federal Way men were killed when their car headed the wrong way at about 11:35 p.m. Monday on State Route 516 in Kent just east of West Meeker Street.

Six other people were injured in the four-vehicle crash, one remained in critical condition and two in serious condition.

A 1988 Toyota Camry traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR 516 (aka Kent Des Moines Road). The three other vehicles were westbound on SR 516, according to the State Patrol press memo.

The Camry sideswiped a 1999 Lexus RX, causing the Camry to rotate. A 2005 Nissan Altima then struck the Camry. The fourth vehicle – a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt – attempted to avoid the collision, veered to the right shoulder, struck a guardrail and hit the Lexus, according to the State Patrol report.

Faalfua Ili, 38, of Federal Way, the driver of the Camry, died in the accident, according to the State Patrol. Freddie Ili, 36, of Federal Way, also died. He was a passenger in the Camry.

A 59-year-old Seattle man, the driver of the Lexus, remained in critical condition Tuesday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to a hospital spokesperson. A 54-year-old Des Moines woman, a passenger in the Lexus, remained in serious condition at Harborview.

A 43-year-old Auburn woman, the driver of the Altima, remained in satisfactory condition at Harborview. Her passenger, a 5-year-old Auburn girl, remained in serious condition.

A 28-year-old Seattle man, the driver of the Cobalt, and his passenger – a 30-year-old Kent man, were treated at Valley Medical Center in Renton.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, according to the State Patrol. The cause was a wrong-way driver and charges are pending. The State Patrol closed the highway for 5 hours and 44 minutes.
