Two Kent residents and a Des Moines man were injured in a five-car accident at 5:50 p.m. on Monday along eastbound Interstate 90 just west of State Route 18.
Two vehicles caught on fire, including a 2001 Ford F150 pickup driven by a 35-year-old Kent man and a 1993 Ford Thunderbird driven by a 70-year-old Kent woman, according to the State Patrol. Paramedics transported both drivers to local hospitals.
A 20-year-old Des Moines man, driving a 1996 Toyota Celica, also was injured. The drivers of two other vehicles, a Kent man and a Maple Valley man, were not injured.
Traffic slowed ahead of one vehicle, which resulted in other vehicles hitting each other. One vehicle left the roadway. Troopers closed the lanes for one hour, 43 minutes.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Drugs or alcohol were not involved. One driver could face a charge of driving too fast for conditions.
