A 19-year-old Seattle woman and a 46-year-old Puyallup man were killed in a wrong-way driver collision along northbound Interstate 5 in SeaTac near South 188th Street.
The collision occurred at about 11:26 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, according to the Washington State Patrol. The woman’s vehicle burst into flames after the crash.
The woman was traveling northbound in lane five of five lanes, according to the State Patrol. The man was driving southbound in the northbound lanes and in lane five of five lanes, struck the woman’s vehicle head on and came to rest in lane five.
The woman’s vehicle came to rest in lane four and five and became fully engulfed in flames, according to the State Patrol. The roadway was blocked for about three hours. The woman died at the scene.
Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died early Friday morning, Sept. 23, according to the State Patrol.
The cause of how the man ended up driving the wrong way remains under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor, according to the State Patrol.
The names of the woman and man have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
