A fire damaged a Kent apartment Saturday afternoon, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported.
Warned by a fire alarm, everybody was able to safely get out of their homes of a six-unit complex in the 23200 block of 88th Avenue Southeast, fire officials said. One of the residents did breathe in some smoke, and as a precaution he was sent to a local hospital.
Residents of the burned unit were not home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters responded at 2:30 p.m. to an apartment fire on the third floor of the complex.
As the first Puget Sound Fire unit pulled up to the complex, the bedroom window broke out because of the high heat and flames. Quint 76 – a combination of a fire engine and an elevated water pipe that can quickly lift up and place a large amount of water on a fire – pulled an attack line and shot water directly through the bedroom window from outside, knocking down the fire. Other units entered the apartment and put the fire out.
Water damaged two apartment below the fire.
On-site management staff and the American Red Cross were helping residents with their needs.
Units from Renton Regional Fire Authority, South King County Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab Team also responded to the incident.
The fire is under investigation.
