An Amtrak train hit and injured a 69-year-old Kent woman in a wheelchair at about 5:54 p.m. Monday at the West Gowe Street crossing.
Paramedics transported the woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious leg injuries, according to a Kent Police media release.
The woman reportedly was operating her motorized wheelchair on the south sidewalk heading eastbound on West Gowe Street toward the railroad tracks. As she approached the tracks, the train passed through the intersection striking her legs and knocking her from the wheelchair. She was conscious at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the crossing arms and flashing signals were in full operation at the time of the incident.
Kent Police, BNSF and Amtrak officials are investigating the incident.
