The Seattle Thunderbirds have climbed into the preseason win column.
Goalie Jacob DeSerrres made 41 saves on 44 shots – including 18 in each of the second and third periods – and four different players scored goals as the Thunderbirds hung on for a 4-3 victory against the Portland Winter Hawks Aug. 31 in their final game at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament.
Seattle finished with a 1-2 record in the tournament after falling 4-2 to the Chilliwack Bruins on Friday and 7-4 to the host Silvertips on Saturday at Comcast Events Center.
Spencer Edwards, David Richard and Brenden Dillon gave the T-birds a 3-0 lead. Portland cut it to 3-1 early in the second period, but Lindsay Nielsen restored Seattle’s three-goal lead less than two minutes later with a power-play goal.
The T-birds have four preseason games remaining. They face the host Tri-City Americans on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament in Kennewick, then face Portland on Saturday in their second tournament game. After a game in Portland on Sept. 12, those two teams come to the Kent Valley Ice Centre the following night for the preseason finale at 6 p.m.
