Nearly 10,000 bicyclists will pedal early Saturday morning through Kent as part of the 31st annual Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.
REI in Kent, 6750 S. 228th St., will serve as a food stop for riders from about 5:45-9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17. REI is 24 miles from the starting line at the University of Washington where riders will leave between 4:25-7:25 a.m. for the 200-mile ride to Portland.
The bicyclists will enter Kent at 80th Avenue South and South 180th Street. They will go right on South 196th Street and then left on 68th Avenue South, also known as the West Valley Highway.
After the stop at REI, the riders return to the West Valley Highway and head south for Auburn and beyond.
Some riders make the ride in one day while others take two days. The route is carefully marked with directional arrows and leads riders through the scenic valleys, forests and farmlands of Western Washington and Oregon.
