Those who visit downtown Kent on Sunday, March 23 are sure to find themselves in a sea of yellow. Yellow vests, that is.
About 100 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God of SeaTac will descend upon the city to perform a cleanup campaign under the slogan, “Clean heart, clean city with the love of Passover!”
In honor of the upcoming Christian Passover on April 13, members from the Church of God say they are eager to put their faith into practice by arming themselves with gloves, trash bags, pickers and whatever else it takes to make Kent’s Central Avenue shine like new.
The Church of God chose to clean Central Avenue at the recommendation of the Kent City Council and soon realized there was no better place for its event.
“If we clean the main artery with love, it will spread like blood through the body, until it reaches the whole city,” said one member.
The Church of God is no stranger to community efforts.
The Kent project marks the church’s sixth cleanup campaign. Furthermore, through the collective efforts of the several thousand Churches of God throughout the world, this will be labeled the 2,405th cleanup campaign held by the World Mission Society Church of God since its establishment 50 years ago.
The cleanup campaign will begin on James Street at noon and extend south through 259th Street, with an estimated completion time of 4 p.m.
