T-Birds tumble to ‘Tips; losing steak reaches 15 games

The Everett Silvertips defeated Seattle 5-1 Friday night in a regionally-televised game at Comcast Arena in Everett, extending the Thunderbirds' losing streak to 15 games.

The Everett Silvertips defeated Seattle 5-1 Friday night in a regionally-televised game at Comcast Arena in Everett, extending the Thunderbirds’ losing streak to 15 games.

The T-Birds (16-26-2-1) have not won since Dec. 7.

Seattle returns to home ice tonight at the ShoWare Center to take on Portland. Faceoff is 7:05. The T-Birds hosts Lethbridge at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.

Captain Luke Lockhart moved into a tie with Aaron Gagnon (318) for fourth place on the T-Birds’ list of all-time games played Friday against Everett. Lockhart has now played 318 games in a T-Birds uniform. He moved ahead of Rob Dumas (315) on Jan. 11, by playing in game 316 against the Victoria Royals.

The three former T-Birds ahead of Lockhart are Glen Goodall (399), Tyler Metcalfe (333), and Scott Jackson (326). Lockhart played his 300th game in a T-Birds uniform Dec. 1 against the Kelowna Rockets. Lockhart has 144 career points on 64 goals and 80 assists.

Everett (18-26-0-2) took a 1-0 lead at 2:19 of the first period on a power-play goal fromKohl Bauml. Ryan Harrison and Mirco Mueller had the assists.

Seattle tied the game 1-1 at 9:01 of the first on Jerret Smith’s first career goal as a T-Bird. Justin Hickman moved the puck out of the left corner to Smith at the left point. Smith moved quickly to his right and had to stretch to keep the puck in the zone. He then skated along the blue line to the right and then put a wrist shot on goal. Smith’s shot went through traffic and beat Everett goalie Austin Lotz low.

Seattle outshot Everett 13-8 in the first period.

The Silvertips took a 2-1 lead at the five-minute mark of the second period on a goal from Harrison. Bauml and Ty Mappin were credited with the assists.

Everett went in front 3-1 at 10:06 of the second when Bauml scored a power-play goal. Harrison and Landon Oslanski had the assists.

The Silvertips got a third goal in the second to extend the lead to 4-1. Josh Winquist had the goal off assists from Oslanski and Manraj Hayer.

Seattle outshot Everett 16-11 in the second period and led 29-19 in shots after two periods.

Hayer scored for Everett at 3:14 to give the Silvertips a 5-1 lead. Winquist had the only assist on the goal.

Seattle outshot Everett16-4 in the third period and 45-23 in the game.

Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh stopped 18 of 23 shots and his record is now 0-4-0-0.

Lotz made 44 saves on 45 shots and his record is now 10-14-0-1.

T-Birds single game tickets are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
