T-Birds fall to Regina, 2-1 | WHL

The Regina Pats defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 Saturday night at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Regina Pats defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 Saturday night at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan.

It was the T-Birds’ fifth game on a six-game road trip to the East Division. They are 2-3-0-0 on the trip so far. They play the Swift Current Broncos at 2 p.m. Sundayat the Credit Union i-plex to finish out the road trip.

Seattle (9-9-2-1) took a 1-0 lead at 5:08 of the first period on Luke Osterman’s first career goal. The T-Birds won a face-off in their zone to create a three-on-two break. Shea Theodore carried the puck up the center of the ice with Calvin Spencer on his right and Osterman on his left. After crossing the Regina blue line Theodore passed the puck to Spencer. Spencer quickly moved it back to Osterman who had cut to the slot. Osterman controlled the puck and beat Regina goalie Daniel Wapple low on the stick side for the goal. Spencer extended his point streak to three games with the assist on the goal.

Regina outshot Seattle 14-11 in the first period.

Seattle outshot Regina 10-7 in a scoreless second period. Both teams had 21 shots after two periods.

Regina (11-9-1-0) tied the game 1-1 at 1:46 of the third period just after a T-Birds power play ended. Morgan Klimchuk beat Seattle goalie Taran Kozun with a quick shot in the slot. Sam Steel and Colby Williams had the assists.

The Pats Patrick D’Amico scored at 15:32 of the third to get his team a 2-1 lead. Dryden Hunt had the only assist.

Regina was called for a too many men penalty with 1:23 left in the game. Seattle pulled Kozun for a six-on-four advantage but couldn’t tie up the game.

Regina outshot Seattle 14-9 in the third period and 35-30 in the game.

Kozun had 33 saves on 35 shots and his record is now 8-6-2-1.

Wapple stopped 29 of 30 shots and his record is 6-8-1-0.
