T-Birds drop preseason finale to ‘Tips | WHL

The Everett Silvertips beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Saturday night at the ShoWare Center in Kent in the last preseason game for both teams.

The T-Birds start the Western Hockey League regular season on the road against the Portland Winterhawks at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Moda Center.

The T-Birds home opener for is Saturday, Sept. 20 against the Everett Silvertips at 7:05 p.m.

Everett beat Seattle 4-1 Friday night at Xfinity Arena at Everett.

Everett (4-2-0-0) took a 1-0 lead two minutes into the first period when Tyler Sandhu tipped a point shot past Seattle goalie Logan Flodell. Noah Juulsen took the shot for Everett. Brayden Low passed the puck to Juulsen.

The Tips increased the lead to 2-0 at 6:02 of the on a power-play goal from Matt Fonteyne. Kevin Davis took a shot from the high slot that Fonteyne tipped over Flodell’s left shoulder. Carson Stadnyk had the second assist.

Seattle (3-4-0-0) outshot Everett 8-4 in the first period.

Nik Amundrund was replaced by Carter Hart midway through the second period. Amundrund stopped all 11 shots he faced.

Carson Stadnyk scored at 17:21 of the second period to put the Silvertips in front 3-0. Zane Jones had the only assist on the goal.

The T-Birds got on the board 22 seconds after the Silvertips third goal. Scott Eansor gained the Everett zone and passed the puck to Keegan Kolesar in the right circle. Kolesar beat Hart over the block with a hard wrist shot. Adam Henry had the second assist.

Seattle outshot Everett 13-10 in the second period and led 21-14 in shots after two periods.

Low scored an empty-net goal to seal the win for Everett at 18:05 of the third period. Bauml and Sandhu had the assists.

Both teams ended the game with 23 shots on goal.

Flodell stopped 19 of 22 shots he faced.

Hart made 11 saves on 12 shots.
