The Seattle Thunderbirds have partnered with Kent-Meridian High School to sponsor a TV Commercial Contest among the marketing and video production classes at the school.
The Intro to Marketing and Advanced Marketing classes taught by Megan Morgan were broken up into 23 three-student groups which came up with marketing proposals for a T-Birds TV commercial campaign. These groups researched the team and ShoWare Center’s marketing needs, identified a marketing campaign to undertake and scripted the commercials. Of these 23 scripts, the top 15 were chosen to be filmed.
The Video Production I class taught by Michael Transier was divided up into 15 three-student groups that each produced one of the TV commercials. These commercials were filmed at ShoWare Center and included numerous Kent-Meridian students and T-Birds players and coaches.
This contest was a semester-long project that had a significant impact on the student’s final grade. The Fall semester at Kent-Meridian ended on Friday, February 5. This is the date that students had to turn their TV commercial in by.
A total of 10 finalists were chosen from the commercials that were filmed, and T-Birds staff, players and fans will now have the opportunity to pick the winning commercials, which will be shown on the big screen at ShoWare Center on Friday, February 12, when the T-Birds take on the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:35pm. Below is a non-binding poll where you can cast your vote on which of the 10 commercials is the best. The T-Birds and Kent-Meridian will have final say on the results of the vote to make sure there are not voting irregularities. There will be a first, second and a third place.
• The winning team members would each receive a $50 gift certificate from Kent Station ($300 total) and four passes to a Thunderbirds game (24 passes total).
• The second place team members would each receive a $30 gift certificate from Kent Station ($180 total) and four passes to a Thunderbirds game (24 passes total).
• The third place team members would each receive a $20 gift certificate from Kent Station ($120 total) and four passes to a Thunderbirds game (24 passes total).
The two classes will have a field trip to ShoWare Center on February 10, where they will get a behind the scenes tour of the ShoWare Center and hear from T-Birds and ShoWare Center staff on the teams marketing initiatives and the logistics involved in producing 36 regular season games a year. The winners of the contest will be revealed on the ShoWare Center big screen at the end of the tour.
