A 16-year-old boy suspected to be involved in a Friday night shooting on East Hill has turned himself in to Kent Police.
Police arrested the suspect and placed him into custody Saturday morning. The teen is suspected to be involved in an altercation that precipitated a shooting in a parking lot outside a McDonald’s in the 10100 block of Southeast 256th Street around 7 p.m. Friday.
The shooting left the victim, a 17-year-old boy, with a close-range gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Witnesses called police after an altercation erupted into a gunshot being fired. Police were on the scene within moments and discovered that the victim had been shot once in the chest and the other involved persons had already fled the scene.
Preliminary reports indicated that the suspect involved had fled the scene. Detectives gathered information from witnesses and collected evidence from the scene, working to clarify the circumstances that led to the shooting and believing that this was not a random incident and that the involved persons knew each other.
Police do not have any other details or information at this time. Detectives continue to investigate.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Kent Police at 253-856-5800.
