Two Kent liquor stores are among the 18 the Washington State Liquor Control Board will put back up for auction.

The top bidders for the 18 state stores did not pay their posted bid as part of an online auction last month and sacrificed their deposit, according to a liquor board media release. The state has collected $25.9 million in bid fees for 149 state liquor stores.

The state will run a live auction on Thursday, May 24 at the liquor board’s distribution center, 4401 E. Marginal Way in Seattle. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and live bids begin at 10 a.m. A bid deposit of $10,000 is required.

“This has been a highly successful auction process,” said liquor board business enterprise director Pat McLaughlin. “We have already collected nearly $26 million in bids plus about $1 million more in fees.”

Successful bidders will win the exclusive right to apply for a liquor license at the current location within its current footprint. All state liquor stores are below the 10,000 square foot threshold for liquor sales established by Initiative 1183 that privatized sales and takes the state out of the liquor business.

The new law goes into effect June 1.

The Kent stores up for bid are Store No. 66, 20514 108th Ave. S.E. on the East Hill and Store No. 82, 23219 Pacific Hwy. S., on the West Hill.

Additional details on the live public auction and comprehensive data on each of the 18 stores being auctioned is available on the WSLCB website at www.liq.wa.gov. Look for the “Public Auction” graphic on the homepage.
