The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a shooting between occupants of two vehicles at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 along southbound Interstate 5 near South 272nd Street near the Kent/Federal Way border.
Troopers were on a traffic stop on southbound I-5 north of South 272nd Street when they heard loud popping sounds which they recognized to be gunfire, according to a State Patrol news release.
Troopers observed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed approaching their location and witnessed the occupants of two vehicles firing weapons at each other. Troopers attempted to overtake the two vehicles but were unable to as traffic had slowed to create distance from the vehicles firing at each other according to the State Patrol.
Troopers lost sight of the vehicles, but think the drivers may have exited to South 272nd Street. The vehicles were described as a white SUV and a black sedan.
A tow truck was located in the area that was struck by two rounds and disabled, according to the State Patrol. No injuries were reported in the shooting.
Detectives are seeking witnesses to this shooting or any information about the two vehicles and suspects involved. Email Detective Tim Hanson at tim.hanson@wsp.wa.gov.
