There are ways to protect yourself as a pedestrian.
The Washington State Patrol recently released a video with tips on how to protect yourself along the side of the road as part of its “Good to Know” series.
Fatality rates in Washington State have shown a steady decline over the past 10 years, according to the State Patrol. In 2010, 457 people were killed on our roadways whereas in 2000, 631 were killed.
But pedestrian fatalities have remained steady with 61 pedestrians killed each year for the last three years.
“When you’re around traffic and being aware of the dangers is half the battle,” said Capt. Jason Berry of the State Patrol.
