A rainy forecast has washed out work that would have narrowed southbound Interstate 5 to two lanes in SeaTac and Des Moines this weekend.
“When we have major work like what is planned for southbound I-5 we want to be sure everything can be completed prior to the Monday morning commute,” said project engineer Mike Askarian in a media release. “Striping and paving require dry weather and this weekend’s forecast does not look promising.”
State crews planned to close lanes from Friday night to early Monday morning to repave 2.7 miles of the freeway. It will take about five weekends of lane reductions in July and August to repave a 13-mile I-5 stretch. The work is weather dependent.
The state Department of Transportation plans to do the SeaTac I-5 work the weekend of July 15-17.
