Travelers who use State Route 410 from 166th Avenue East in Sumner to Veterans Memorial Drive East in Bonney Lake will need to use alternate routes and plan for an extended closure of the highway.
SR 410 is closed between mileposts 11.4 to 13.3 due to the Sumner Grade Fire that burned across the highway, according a Thursday report from Washington State Department of Transportation. WSDOT and emergency managers are keeping this section of the highway closed through this weekend and into the week of Sept. 14 until further inspections can be performed. This date could change given the active wildfire situation in the area. Travelers can detour using SR 165 and SR 162.
Before the highway can re-open, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews need to replace long sections of scorched guardrail. In addition, crews will inspect the hillside for large rocks or other debris that could fall on to the highway.
Travelers should also be advised that SR 410 in King County east of Enumclaw is also closed between mileposts 29 and 31 near Southeast Mud Mountain Road for wildfire activity. There is no available detour for this closure.
It’s really tough to determine how long these closure will be in place, especially when it comes to wildfires, according to WSDOT.
