Son, 20, reportedly fatally shot Kent mother’s boyfriend

Man, 45, and woman allegedly in physical dispute prior to shooting at East Hill home

A 20-year-old Kent man reportedly shot and killed the 45-year-old boyfriend of his mother.

Officers responded just after 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 to a home in the 14300 block of SE 282nd Street on the East Hill, according to a Kent Police news release. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots coming from the house.

Officers arrived to find the boyfriend badly bleeding from gunshot wounds, according to police. Officers began live-saving measures and called for fire personnel and medics to assist. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he later died.

A woman told police that she and her boyfriend were in a physical altercation inside their home when her son shot her boyfriend several times, according to the news release. The son then left the residence prior to police arriving. Police are trying to locate the man.

Police recovered a 9mm handgun at the scene. Police believe is is the same firearm used in the shooting, but forensic processing will be conducted to make an official determination, police said.

All three people involved in this incident lived at the residence, according to police. It appears that the violence committed by the suspect in this incident is specific to the dynamics of this family, police said.

11th homicide in 2022

The shooting marks the 11th homicide in Kent in 2022, according to Kent Police. Eight of the homicides involved the use of a firearm. Kent had 14 homicides in 2021, eight in 2020, four in 2019 and seven in 2018.
