Law enforcement and school officials do not believe a social media post suggesting a shooting Monday, Oct. 25 at Kentlake High School was a viable threat.
Kentlake families were notified by email Sunday night by Principal Heidi Maurer about the threat at the school, 21401 SE Falcon Way in unincorporated King County.
“King County Sheriff’s Office, Kent School District safety officers and the Kentlake administration team have been looking into information this morning and, we do not believe there is any viable threat,” said Melissa Laramie, district spokesperson, in a Monday email. “Out of precaution, the call was made last night to have increased security and law enforcement presence at Kentlake today.”
Kentlake administrators and the Sheriff’s Office received reports Sunday from residents about a social media post suggesting a shooting.
“Safety is always our primary concern,” Laramie said. “When threats like this occur we take every precaution to ensure a safe learning environment for students and staff. I know Ms. Maurer appreciates the support and cooperation from students, family and staff. This is also when our relationships with law enforcement are so important to ensure efforts are coordinated.”
Attendance was a little lower than normal, Laramie said in response to whether students stayed home because of the threat.
All school events and athletic practices are proceeding as normal on Monday, Laramie said. The C-team football game was rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Auburn Riverside because Kentlake was short of players.
