Kent Park officials had to close down the fountains June 27 at Town Square Plaza Park after someone dumped laundry soap around the granite ball water feature the previous night.
The fountains were undamaged and parks officials reopened the fountains June 28, said Jeff Watling, city parks director.
“Our guys got it cleaned up and the fountain is working fine,” Watling said. “There doesn’t appear to be any harm to the system. Unfortunately, it was closed for the day.”
The city has a video camera directed at the fountains and park officials will review the video and work with police if there is any evidence of suspects who might have dumped the laundry soap, Watling said.
“We’ll look at the video and see if there is anything worth pursuing,” Watling said.
A similar incident happened last year at the park fountains. Town Square Plaza is at the corner of Second Avenue and West Smith Street, just west of the Kent library and south of Kent Station.
