An early February snowstorm shut down Kent schools, caused power outages, stopped garbage service and closed several city streets.
Sea-Tac Airport reported 7 inches of snow from Sunday night to Monday morning.
All Kent School District offices and schools were closed Monday and afternoon and evening school events were cancelled after 5 inches or more of snow hit Kent on Sunday night and Monday morning.
City officials closed Kent Municipal Court and the Kent Senior Activity Center.
The following city streets were closed early Monday morning: James Street Hill (98th Avenue SE to Central); Southeast 240th (144th to 148th Avenue SE) ; Southeast 208th (96th to 92nd ); Garrison Creek Hill SE 218th (96th to 93rd Avenue SE); Lake Fenwick Road (South 254th to 272nd); and 42nd Avenue South and South 261st (West Hill).
As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, city crews had opened Southeast 240th Street between 144th and 148th Avenues, but the hill streets remained closed.
Most main roads in the Kent Valley were wet and clear by late Monday morning.
The National Weather Service predicts a chance of rain and snow showers before 10 p.m. on Monday, then a chance of snow showers, with a low around 31 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one-half inch possible.
On Tuesday, a slight chance of snow showers is predicted before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. It’s expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
