Snow showers could hit the Kent area Sunday although no significant accumulation is expected based on forecasts issued Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to reach highs of about 37 degrees with lows of 29 to 31.
A strong cold front is forecast to move through Western Washington later Saturday ushering in a cold air mass which will linger until Monday. Snow levels will drop to near 500 feet Saturday night and potentially to sea-level Sunday morning.
Hit and miss showers will develop with a threat of a convergence zone setting up from Snohomish County northward late Saturday night and Sunday, according to the weather service.
Cliff Mass in his Weather Blog Thursday said:
“It really looks like there will be some lowland snow late Saturday into Sunday…but not the heavy, widespread variety. It is clear that the mountains will get quite a bit during the next week and that the entire region will go through a much colder period starting later on Saturday.”
Mass said there could be 2-6 inches over the coastal mountains, 6-12 inches over the Cascades, and several inches over the eastern side of the lowlands.
“So the bottom line, a very good chance of some lowland snow, but not a uniform heavy snowfall…snow in showers and potential for some accumulation in a convergence zone and the higher eastern suburbs,” Mass said.
