Anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow could hit the Kent area Thursday evening before the precipitation turns back to rain on Thursday night.
The National Weather Service revised its forecast on Thursday to predict snow won’t hit the Seattle area until between 7 and 8 p.m.
Low temperatures Thursday morning will dip again into the 20s while high temperatures will only rise into the mid to upper 30s.The relatively dry air will also help the atmosphere cool further when precipitation begins to fall.
This type of pattern typically produces more widespread snowfall than was seen earlier in the week, and the expected accumulation with this scenario is 1 to 3 inches for most of the interior lowlands, according to the weather service.
Higher accumulations are possible if the transition back to rain is slower, and over areas that are prone to upslope enhancement in easterly flow, particularly the Hood Canal area. Lower accumulations are possible if the transition back to rain is earlier, including the Seattle metro area.
Isolated pockets of freezing rain are also possible, especially Thursday evening over the south interior.
In addition, up to 1 foot of snow is expected over the mountains, especially the Olympics.
