An 18-year-old Kent man died in a one-car accident that also injured four others when the vehicle smashed into a tree early Sunday morning along westbound State Route 410 about 2o miles east of Enumclaw.

Paco M. Frees , the right front passenger, died at the scene of the 2:38 a.m. accident, according to a State Patrol media release.

Troopers arrested an 18-year-old man for investigation of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault as alcohol or drugs allegedly played a role in the crash. The man drove a 1990 Honda Accord that had left a bonfire party in the area and later went out of control, left the roadway, went over an embankment and struck a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle, according to the State Patrol.

The driver as well as a 20-year Spanaway man, an 18-year-old Puyallup man and a 16-year-old girl were injured in the accident. Three were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Paramedics transported one man to Tacoma General Hospital. All had life-threatening or serious injuries.

Troopers didn’t list a hometown for the driver or the girl in the accident report.

Detectives are seeking additional witnesses to the collision. Contact Detective Russ Haake at 425-401-7717 with any information.
