Kent Police continue to investigate an attempted robbery Saturday at a jewelry store in the 300 block of East Smith Street where shots were fired.
At about 10:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots and a man seen running from the store, according to a Kent Police media release.
Officers arrived to learn that a man had entered the jewelry store with a gun in his hand. As he entered the business he confronted the owner who was armed and gunshots were fired. The man then ran out of the store and fled in an unknown direction. It is unknown if he continued on foot or left in a vehicle. He was armed with a handgun.
Gunshots were exchanged between the man and a jewelry store employee, according to an email from detective Melanie Frazier. Detectives are investigating the incident, conducting interviews and collecting evidence to figure out more details.
