Sheriff’s Office arrests man for kidnapping 16-year-old girl

The King County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday in Tukwila for investigation of first-degree kidnapping for grabbing a 16-year-old girl and pulling her into his car before the girl managed to flee in August near Kent.

Detectives identified Kevin J. Perkins through DNA, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Perkins had a $500,000 warrant for kidnapping. The U.S. Marshals Service assisted with the arrest. Deputies booked Perkins into the King County jail. The Sheriff’s Office did not yet release an age or hometown for Perkins.

The Sheriff’s Office in August issued a press release and sketch to help identify a suspect.

On Aug. 13, at about 11:45 p.m., a 16-year-old girl was walking/jogging in the area of South 272nd Street and 42nd Avenue South near unincorporated Kent and Star Lake, according to a Sheriff’s Office media release.

The victim reportedly turned the corner at South 272nd Street and 42nd Avenue South and there was a dark-colored SUV sitting on the right side of the roadway. A male was outside the vehicle. The girl thought things were weird and started to turn around to go the other direction when the suspect grabbed her.

The man grabbed the girl’s throat and was able to push her into the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The suspect got the victim’s pants partially down and tried to keep her in the vehicle. The girl struggled, kicking the suspect and he fell down. The victim was screaming and honking the vehicles horn. The girl said she was able to scratch the man’s face.

When the man got back up from falling, he tried to grab the girl again. The suspect grabbed the girl and she took off her sweatshirt to get away. The man then grabbed the victim’s leg and her shoe came off. The girl was able to run away and flag down a passing vehicle for help.
