A Celebration of Life for Madeline “Maddie” Goldsmith, a recent Kentwood High School graduate, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at Maple Valley Church, 22659 Sweeney Road SE, in Maple Valley.
Goldsmith, 18, of Covington, was fatally shot July 4 in Kent near Lake Meridian. She died over the weekend from her injuries. As of the afternoon of July 10, Kent Police have not made an arrest.
“Please join us to celebrate the vibrant life of our beautiful Maddie,” according to an announcement from the Goldsmith family.
Attendees are invited to make paper hearts in any size or style to bring to the service.
“Maddie loved making paper origami hearts and giving them away,” according to the announcement.
The paper hearts will be collected to give to people who cared for Maddie. Those people include first responders, Harborview Medical Center staff in Seattle, LifeCenter Northwest and the Kent Police detectives working the case.
“Feel free to include a message about Maddie on the hearts you make,” the family said.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks guests to consider a donation in Maddie’s honor to LifeCenter Northwest, MEOW Cat Rescue or Maple Valley Christian Preschool.
“Maddie practically lived in her sweatshirts, so please feel free to dress comfortably,” the family said.
